Debra Bridgman | Canadian Artist 🇨🇦

celebrating the beauty of nature through art

Debra Bridgman is a Canadian impressionist artist living in Barrie, Ontario. She completed her working career as an educator in First Nation schools in Ontario and the Northwest Territories in 2019. She is following her life-long passion for creative artistic expression, first in music, and now as an artist working in acrylic, watercolour, and pen and ink sketching.

Debra’s style reflects an impressionist influence; her inspiration comes from places where the natural environment connects with people enjoying outdoor activities, hiking, biking and ski trails, and golf courses, for example. Older dwellings or artifacts, with their history and character, or small animals sometimes make their way into her paintings, evoking a feeling of nostalgia and surprise. She enjoys painting ‘en plein air’, and in her studio from reference photos she has taken from her nature explorations and travel.

Debra is influenced by a number of prominent Canadian artists, and also studied watercolour at the Ottawa School of Art. She is currently on the Board and a member of the Barrie Art Club.
