Meditative Mindfulness

A Bridge Between Inner Stillness and Creative Action

Susan Hunter Guise brings more than just website platform knowledge, accounting and business experience to the table for her clients. A talented artist herself, Susan’s creative work has spanned across many mediums and styles over the years. Susan is an accomplished violinist, having studied at Western University, Ontario, Canada, for several years. As a visual artist, Susan has worked in oils, pastel and acrylic mediums. Her work is currently in several exhibitions in Ontario.

Zen meditation has had a profound influence on Susan’s work by fostering a deeper connection with the present moment, enhancing her creativity, and encouraging a state of inner calm and clarity. The principles of mindfulness, simplicity, and the cultivation of awareness, all inspire her creative process and influence her style, themes, and approach.

Her plein air work has developed her ability to observe the natural world with greater sensitivity. Her works capture the fleeting moments of beauty, light, and form in the environment around her.

Susan took an interest in Shodo (Japanese Calligraphy) and studied with Sensei Noriko Maeda of Waterloo, Ontario. Stillness and awareness cultivated in zen meditation, directly inform the art of calligraphy. Just as meditation encouraged Susan to clear her mind, Shodo calligraphy required her to be fully present, focused, and free of distractions to allow her brush to move freely. This form of art allowed her to focus on the essential elements of her work. Susan learned to communicate her ideas with fewer and more deliberate strokes.

Her current artworks are organic, authentic and personal pieces.

View Susan’s video to learn more about Shodo calligraphy and how this artistic medium tied into her practice. Both meditation and art engage Susan with mindfulness, imperfection, breath, spontaneity, and presence. There is indeed a bridge between Susan’s inner stillness and her creative action.

Diane FitzGerald
Diane FitzGerald was born and raised in the vibrant city of Montreal, Québec surrounded by the energy of the 70s and 80s. She moved to Ontario in the early 90’s. As long as she can remember, Diane has enjoyed drawing, painting and playing with colour. But her main inspiration has always been from nature.

Diane’s joy of the world around her comes through in her whimsical and impressionistic illustrations and landscapes. Her mediums of choice are ink, watercolour and acrylics. The use of vibrant colours and her unique style evoke emotions and memories of places and things. Each painting tells a story. Diane can see the beauty in a fading flower, the magic of a storm, capture the mood of the frozen Canadian landscape, and turn these moments into joyful works of art.

Diane received her Bachelor of Arts and Education from Concordia University. Her creative and innovative approach to all of her work allowed her to enjoy a wonderful career as an educator for 32 years. Diane began selling her artworks professionally in 2015. Her love for the arts was strong, and she eventually chose to pursue her dream of working as a full time artist.

Diane now resides in Barrie, Ontario, close to the shores of Lake Simcoe’s Kempenfelt Bay. She works from her home studio overlooking beautiful trees, gardens and parkland. Her original artworks, prints and cards are collected across Canada and are available online and in local galleries.
